• Using the right size gravel in the planted aquarium is important for success. Aquarium plants grow best in small-sized gravel, two to four inches deep. Do not use pebble gravel or gravel containing crushed coral.


• In nature, aquatic plants are found growing in Laterite in tropical streams.


• Laterite is an excellent planting media for rooted aquatic plants. Add First Layer Pure Laterite when preparing your aquarium. First Layer should be used when setting up a new aquarium or adding to an established aquarium.


• Adding First Layer Pure Laterite To The Gravel Bed
  
  New Aquariums:
  
  
  • Rinse First Layer before use.
  
  
  • Distribute First Layer evenly on the bottom of the aquarium using 1 oz. (28g) of First Layer for every U.S. gallon (4.0 L) of aquarium water. For example, use 20 oz. (567g) in a 20 U.S. gallon aquarium.
  
  
  • Now add about one inch (2.5 cm) of gravel on top of First Layer.
  
  
  • Mix the gravel evenly throughout First Layer.
  
  
  • Add the remaining gravel to the aquarium.
  
  
  • Gently fill the aquarium with water, being careful not to disturb the gravel.
  
  Established Aquariums:
  
  
  • Rinse First Layer before use.
  
  
  • Add 1 oz. (28g) of First Layer for each U.S. gallon (4.0 L) of aquarium water. Distribute First Layer evenly into the aquarium gravel throughout the aquarium.
