All fish thrive at a particular pH level. pH can fluctuate due to fish waste, tap water and build-up of natural acids. This kit allows you to easily and accurately measure the pH level and maintain a healthy pond for your fish.
Nitrite, a major cause of fish death, is produced in the pond by fish waste and overfeeding. Even low levels affect the red blood cells of fish, reducing their ability to carry oxygen, thus causing suffocation and even death.
Ammonia, the number one killer of both saltwater and freshwater fish, is constantly being produced in the pond from fish waste and urine, decomposing plants, and uneaten fish food.
Phosphate enters the pond from fish waste and decaying organic matter, such as dead algae and uneaten fish food. Water treatment facilities may add phosphate to tap water to prevent pipe corrosion and reduce concentrations of heavy metals in drinking water. Excess phosphate may lead to algae blooms.
